Recent endogenic, exogenic and man-induced processes that take place in the vicinity of Gomel have been analyzed. Among the endogenic processes zones of linear disturbances, uplifts and ring structures have been described. Linear and bank water erosion, sheet wash, deflation, suffosion, peat accumulation, avalanches, taluses, creep have been characterized among the exogenic group, and various land subsidences, troughs, inundation, development of peculiar deposits and landforms, chemical and bacterial contamination, growth of temperature and hostility of ground water – among the man-induced group of processes.

These peculiarities of recent geological processes influence the physical and mechanical properties of the ground and, hence, the resistance of buildings and other constructions. The data obtained may be used as the ground for the engineering geological division of the studied region.
